Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the Thai delegation arrived in Dawei early morning today where they had a discussion with Myanmar President Thein Sein over the joint development of the Dawei Special Economic Zone and other related projects.
The trip is to follow up on the progress of the projects.
According to www.thaigov.go.th Yingluck will listen to a briefing on the progress of Dawei Special Economic Zone development project after which both leaders will exchange views and discuss pending issues including investment in the Dawei Special Economic Zone and invitation to investors to be part of the project. The Thai-Myanmar joint committee briefed them on the funding and legal issues to promote investment. It is expected that complete details would be ready within February 2013 for the Joint High-level Committee (JHC)’s approval.
As agreed earlier the new framework agreement would be signed then before the signing of all sectorial agreements in March. Fund mobilisation would start in April the same time with construction.
After the visit to model houses and demonstrative agricultural lots Yingluck will attend the lunch hosted by a vice president of Myanmar. In the afternoon she will visit local schools and donates school stationaries and supplies as well as sport equipment.
She will also be seen at a local public health centre and donate medical supplies. She will return to Bangkok in the evening after the visit to the small port and deep sea port.
Accompanying her to Myanmar are Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul Deputy PM and Finance Minister Kittirat Na Ranong PM's Office Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongpaisal Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal and Industry Minister Prasert Boonchaisuk.
